ATHLETICS RULES

Track Events
  • Each competitor must be permitted to compete in a sprint, hurdles or relay event as well as a field event so long as they report OUT and IN to the person in charge and move swiftly between events. The Track Events will run on schedule and this may mean an athlete competing out of order and/or their Year Group for a Field Event.
  • In 1500m events, Year 7 and 8 athletes run together with Year 7's wearing numbers and Year 8's wearing letters and the Year 9's and 10 athletes run together with Year 9's wearing numbers and Year 10's wearing letters.
  • Coaching is only permitted during competition if the coach is behind the fence that surrounds the track arena.
Field Events
  • Each competitor must be permitted to compete in a sprint, hurdles or relay event as well as a field event so long as they report OUT and IN to the person in charge and move swiftly between events.
  • A competitor can throw or jump out of order or with another Year Group if necessary to speed up the collation of results.
  • For the duration of a particular throwing event please place the red paddle marker in the ground at the record distance for the event.
  • Measurements for throwing events are to be taken after each throw and the event indicator board adjusted to show the measurement of the last measured throw. School flags to indicate distances should be left in for one round (ie. maximum of eight flags) and then all removed for the commencement of the next round of throws. If an athlete is throwing out of their year group the same procedure described above applies except their school flag will not stay in the ground after their throw has been measured.
  • Competitors can use their own equipment as long as it complies with the Athletics Association rules and can be used by other competitors.
  • Coaching is only permitted during competition if the coach is behind the fence that surrounds the track arena.
